What is a Fresh 48 Session?

The first 48 hours with your newborn are a whirlwind of emotions—excitement, exhaustion, overwhelming love, and everything in between. It’s a time of firsts: the first snuggles, the first tiny yawns, the first time your baby wraps their hand around your finger. These moments are fleeting, and in the haze of recovery and adjusting to new parenthood, they can pass by in a blur.

That’s where a Fresh 48 session comes in. Unlike a traditional newborn session, these photos capture your baby’s very first hours earthside, in the place where they were born - whether that’s a hospital, birth center, or at home for home births. There’s no need for perfect outfits or posed setups—just the raw, honest beauty of your family’s first moments together. These are the photos that will bring you right back to the beginning, reminding you of the love, awe, and tenderness that filled the room as you met your little one.

Let’s dive into what a Fresh 48 session is and why these images will become some of your most treasured keepsakes.

What makes a Fresh 48 session so special?

There is nothing quite like the first 48 hours with your baby—the way they curl into you, the softness of their skin, the tiny hospital bracelet on their wrist. These moments are fleeting, and a Fresh 48 session allows you to preserve them forever. Here’s what makes these sessions so unique and meaningful:

Capturing the First Moments – Your baby will never be this new again. Fresh 48 sessions document their first yawns, stretches, and the way they instinctively nestle into your arms. These are the details that change overnight, and having them captured ensures you’ll always remember just how tiny they were.

Raw and Real Emotions – The joy, exhaustion, and overwhelming love you feel in these early hours is unlike anything else. There’s something so powerful about these images—unfiltered, emotional, and filled with the magic of meeting your baby for the first time.

Authenticity Over Perfection – There’s no need to stress about perfect outfits or spotless rooms. Hospital gowns, cozy robes, swaddles, and sleepy newborn snuggles are all part of the story. These sessions focus on real-life moments rather than posed perfection.

A Lasting Memory of the ‘Newborn Bubble’ – The first couple of days with your baby can feel like a blur. Between feedings, visitors, and simply taking it all in, time moves fast. Fresh 48 photos give you a way to look back and relive those first sweet moments—exactly as they happened.

These sessions are about telling your family’s story as it unfolds—naturally, beautifully, and in a way that will bring you right back to the very beginning.

How to Book a Fresh 48 Session

Booking your Fresh 48 session is simple, and I’m here to make the process as easy as possible for you during this exciting time! Here’s how it works:

1. Reserve Your Session – Since Fresh 48 sessions take place within the first two days after birth, I only take a limited number of bookings each month to ensure availability. It’s best to reserve your session during your second or third trimester to secure your spot.

2. Fill Out a Quick Questionnaire – When you book, I’ll send over a short questionnaire where you can share your due date, birth location, and any specific hopes or requests for your session.

3. Keep Me in the Loop – Since babies arrive on their own timeline, just send me a quick message when you go into labor (or when baby is born) so we can plan a time that works best for you once you’re settled.

4. Choose a Time – Fresh 48 sessions are usually done during daylight hours for the best natural light (typically between 9 AM - 3 PM, depending on the time of year). Once you’re settled in your hospital room or at home, we’ll confirm a time that works best for you.

5. Relax and Enjoy – No need to stress about outfits or prepping for your session. I’ll guide you through everything, capturing the tiny details and beautiful first moments with your new baby.

The first hours with your baby are unlike any other. A Fresh 48 session ensures that these fleeting moments don’t just become a blur, but instead are beautifully preserved for you to cherish forever.

Years from now, when your baby is no longer tiny, these images will bring you right back to the way they fit in your arms, the way they stretched in their bassinet, and the joy of those early hours together. These photos aren’t just pictures; they’re memories of the moment your world changed forever.

If you’re expecting and want to document these first sweet moments, I’d love to capture them for you. Let’s chat and make sure you never forget just how tiny and new your baby was in those very first days.
