Which is Right For You?

At Elle May Photography, my passion is capturing the authentic love and joy that naturally unfold in your home. Because that's where you and your family are the truest version of yourselves! But I totally get that not every family feels ready to open their home for photos—or you might worry your space won’t “look the part” (Myth! We can create beautiful, meaningful images anywhere!). So, to help you decide which session fits your family this season, I’m breaking down the key differences between full family sessions and mini sessions.

studio family Mini Sessions

Key Features: shorter duration, affordability, and no home prep needed

Mini sessions are quick and easy, typically lasting around 15 minutes. This is perfect for little ones (or husbands!) who prefer to get photos done without too much fuss. Even in that short time, I’m able to capture a variety of compositions to provide you with a beautiful gallery of memories. You'll be able to choose five high-resolution images to download or upgrade to the full gallery if you want more.

Mini sessions are more affordable than a full family session. Since there’s less pre-session preparation, a shorter shooting time, and fewer images to edit afterward, the price reflects that. This makes mini sessions a great option if you’re looking for an affordable way to document this season of life for your family.

And the best part? There’s no need to prep your home or worry about lighting! With mini sessions, all you have to do is show up. I’ve selected a beautiful studio that will give you the cozy, at-home feel without any of the prep or cleanup.

Full at-home Family Sessions

Key Features: more relaxed vibe, greater variety and creativity, and deeper family connections

Full family sessions, on the other hand, typically last between 60 to 90 minutes. This gives everyone plenty of time to get comfortable in front of the camera (especially the kids!). Some of the best, most genuine shots often happen toward the end when everyone’s feeling more relaxed and playful.

With the extended time, we can explore multiple spaces in and around your home, allowing for more variety and creativity. I love following the kids' lead, letting them guide us toward those candid, joyful moments that truly showcase your family’s unique connection. Check out this blog post to see how I work with kiddos during a session to get those natural, authentic images.

Your home is the heart of your family, the place where love and joy flow most naturally. That’s why it’s the perfect setting for capturing those real moments of connection between you and your loved ones. I’ll find the best light, guide you into flattering positions, and then encourage you to just be yourselves. It’s in these relaxed, familiar settings that the magic happens—you’ll end up with photos where you can truly feel the love radiating from every image.

So, How do i Choose?

Do you need a quick, fun update of family photos to capture everyone at this stage of life? Or are you looking for photos that tell the story of your family’s love and connection in a more meaningful, creative way? There’s a time and season for each type of session, so it really comes down to what your family needs right now.
