One of the things I love the most about in-home photography is the uniqueness of every session. The layout of the home influences how the light flows through the rooms. The arrangement of furniture guides how I set up base poses for the family. And the biggest difference - family dynamics. Some sessions unfold leisurely, with a calm vibe and lots of snuggles, while others are characterized by energy, filled with movement and consistent laughter. This fuels my passion for photography and ensures my creativity remains vibrant and attuned to capture the true essence of each family I have the privilege to serve. While these distinguishing factors play heavily into the flow of each in-home session, there are certain timeless moments I am sure to document during every one of my newborn sessions.
1) Mom With Baby
There is nothing quite as special as Mom and her newborn baby. The bond the two share immediately is evident in the way Baby snuggles so tenderly against mom's chest and how lovingly Mom looks at this precious new gift to their family.
2) Dad with Baby
I love the look in Dad's eyes when he has just met his newborn baby. He looks so proud and confident as the protector of his family and this newest addition.
3) Siblings
If there are older siblings (or even family pets) in the family, I look forward to capturing the interactions between them and the new baby. Sometimes siblings can be hesitant to join in the session, because, let's face it, there world has just been turned upside down. However, I still think these moments are very telling of the transition that has just occurred.
4) The Whole Family
While most of my session is focused on genuine interactions between family members, I do always try to get one of everyone smiling at the camera. Many times this is the one that grandma wants to hang on her refrigerator or show off to all of her friends.
5) Details
Babies change so rapidly. While babies are sleeping contently, I make sure to document all the small things you will want to remember one day - the sleepy stretches, tiny toes, small fingers, and the head full of dark hair.
6) The Nursery
Whether you have a dedicated nursery or not, I try to capture some images in baby's crib or places that are most often used for sleeping. Many times, parents have spent lots of time planning the details of a nursery, so I want to freeze those images for you. I don't always utilize the nursery for photos if it does not have a major source of natural light, but I will always try to capture a few in the nursery if that is important to you.
The newborn phase goes by so quickly and is filled with so many tender moments between family members. I would be honored to immortalize this moment in the life of your family, so that years from now your child can see how proud and excited his or her family was as they welcomed the newest addition into their lives.
